Orcollo hopes to reaffirm No. 1 status in Villar Cup

Dennis Orcollo shoots to maintain his status as the world’s no. 1 pool player as he tries to win the Bacolod leg of the Senate President Manny Villar Cup, which kicks off Wednesday at the Garden Royal Function Hall of Goldenfields Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Although Orcollo won four major tournaments this year, he fell short of winning a title in his last two outings.

“I hope I could resume my winning ways, and I want to do it here in Villar Cup,” said Orcollo in a report posted on BilliardPhilippines.com.

Orcollo’s partnership with Francisco “Django” Bustamante saw the Philippines reaching third place in the World Cup of Pool. He also reached the semifinal round of the Guinness 9-Ball Grand Finals last month.

He had successful stints in the Quezon City 9-Ball Championship, the All-Japan Open, the Qatar International 9-Ball Open and the Guinness Tour Guangzhou leg, becoming one of the most successful pool players in 2008.

“Actually, hindi naman nagbago yung tira ko, medyo hindi lang ako nabigyan ng magandang break in my past two tournaments. So I’m still confident that I can continue winning more tournaments,” he said.

Manalo, Gabica compete in All-Japan 9-Ball

Meanwhile, national champion Marlon Manalo and Doha Asian Games 9-ball gold medallist Antonio Gabica are set to compete in the All-Japan Championship 2008.

"Sana malampasan ko ang third place finish ko dito two years ago," Gabica told BilliardPhilippines’ Marlon Bernandino.

The All-Japan Championship offers the lion share of JPY2,000,000 to the top winner. The runner-up gets JPY1,000,000 while losing-semifinalists will bring home JPY500,000 each.

The competition is slated at the Hotel New Archaic Hall in Hyogo, Japan from November 19 to 24.
